Peatland Protection, Rimba Raya
We’re offsetting our carbon emissions by supporting the Rimba Raya Biodiversity Reserve Project. It protects one of the most highly endangered ecosystems in the world. Without this project, the carbon-rich, peatland forests of Rimba Raya would have been turned into palm oil estates, emitting over 100 million tonnes of carbon into the atmosphere. Instead, the project is protecting the land and working with local communities to achieve all 17 of the Sustainable Development Goals.

Why we love this project
- The project is working towards the SDVista Standard, proactively targeting and monitoring the SDGS with local communities.
- The reserve is a buffer zone protecting the integrity of adjacent, world-renowned Tanjung Puting National Park home to wild orangutans.
- Peatlands are an underrepresented ecosystem in carbon markets, yet they are the largest natural store of carbon on land, home to many organisms found nowhere else, and play an outsized role in reducing floods, drought and wildfire.
